Broadview at Purchase College Recognized for Design by Environments for Aging Magazine
University Retirement Community Receives Honorable Mention for Design
Purchase, New York – (May, 2025) – A jury of industry experts rated Broadview at Purchase College among the best designs for senior living communities as part of Environments for Aging Magazine’s annual design competition.
Set on 40 acres in Purchase, New York, Broadview at Purchase College offers a full continuum of services including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Enhanced Assisted Living, and Memory Care. Opened in December of 2023, it is a collaborative initiative between the State University of New York and Life Care Services, an LCS Company.
The awards were presented at the 2025 EFA Conference + Expo in Lexington, Ky., on April 26-29.
“Broadview at Purchase is proud to accept this award as we know what a beautifully designed campus we have in a beautiful setting,’’ said Ashley Wade, Executive Director at Broadview at Purchase College. “The design with its spacious Learning Commons is the perfect venue for intergenerational learning that takes place between residents and students.’’
The architecture and interior design blend modern and traditional aesthetics to complement the existing campus buildings. Farmhouse chic interiors incorporate natural light, layered materials, and transparency, fostering warmth and connection. Design elements include Mondrian-inspired glass walls, pipe and rail displays, and wood structures.
Judges were particularly impressed with Broadview’s 10,000-square-foot Learning Commons within the 50,000-square-foot community Commons building.
“Open to students and Broadview residents, this central hub offers amenities such as classrooms, performance spaces, and art studios, promoting education and socialization. The interactive Teaching Kitchen, located in the main dining area, hosts cooking classes and culinary demonstrations for all. These spaces, along with the assisted living building’s ground-level amenities, shape a new campus quad that’s a welcoming outdoor space fostering intergenerational engagement.”
Outdoor spaces such as a park, walking trails, and gardens offer wellness opportunities and connect to the broader 500-acre campus.
A jury of industry experts, including architects, interior designers, owners/operators, and consultants, assessed this year’s submissions, with one project garnering the top Award of Merit honor, four receiving Honorable Mentions, and seven projects named as finalists.
